Bush ranger country and Kosciusko National Park

Re-posting this as accidentally deleted.... Where's my brain gone....

Girls would have liked to stay in Melbourne longer and there was so much more to see but Bush-ranger country was calling us.
We stopped in Glenrowan, the town of Ned Kelly's last stand.
It was 40 degrees we found out later. Hurt our head to stand in the sun. So we did not stay long. Instead we headed to Albury/Wodonga and Ebden on the Hume dam. The girls cooled off in the pool with their new snorkel gear we got them for Christmas.
We didn't know at the time but we had put one of our tent pegs through a water pipe. The next morning we awoke to find a flooded kitchen and campsite and a small fountain erupting from the offending peg. The back of the tent is sealed, so luckily all the bedding was dry. The camp ground manager was keen to get it fixed. So we packed up and headed on to the mountains.
We have never been here in the summer, only in the winter. It was really lovely. Would have liked to have stayed much longer. So peaceful and at least 15 degrees cooler.

There was a big fire through the park in 2003. We didn't notice the dead trees in 2011 or so when we visited in the winter. Perhaps because we were in a different part of the park. But we couldn't miss them now. Many were frozen in the fiery wind blown position that they got cooked in. You can see the great swathes of dead trees in this pic. Like old man whiskers peppering large parts of the mountains.
Couldn't understand why there were not many other campers. No showers and drop toilets is probably part of that story. And the marsh flies were pretty numerous and persistent. But we really liked it. We could have a camp fire! So good. Tho we were a bit low on marshmallows to really capitalise!! Girls cooled off in Geehi River that we camped next to. It was a bit cold for the little one. Our eldest copes better with the cold as u can see. Some other campers were fly fishing here but I am not sure how successful they were. But who cares with the spectacular views when standing in the river looking up the valley.
Must have been at least 100 crows at dead horse gap when we stopped there for lunch the next day. Thought that was weird. Lots of push bikes riding up from Thredbo or Jindabyne too. Gutsy. We would have like to have done the walk to Mt Kosciusko. But it was 9km each way and around 12hrs of walking - too much for the girls this time we think. Another one to add to our very long list for next time.
